India to create new hi-tech city
Today we see a story about a new high tech city being created in the southern Indian state of Kerala.
Australia had this idea about 10 years ago when the government came up with the idea of the Multi Function Polis (it wasn't a very sexy name). Read the ANU Report.
But all initiative was quashed, as many Australian ideas are, by the endless jingoistic cultural cringe that has before stopped so many projects. There were cries of it becoming an Asian enclave for the rich. Nobody thought of making it an Australian city of innovation, and those who did were ignored.
Now people are asking why are so many jobs being outsourced to overseas call centres, and why are such brilliant people and ideas being lost. Well it doesn't take much to figure that out....
we're letting it happen !
To be fair, a Technology Park was formed at Mawson Lakes in South Australia, just north of Adelaide. (in part of the original MFP site). It's a shadow of what was to be.
It's about time we caught up with India.
