RIM Settles in BlackBerry Patent Case
Research In Motion has agreed to pay $612.5 million in order to end a long-running litigation lawsuit that threatened to shutter RIM's popular Blackberry e-mail service in the U.S.
The Waterloo, Ontario-based RIM put out a statement Friday saying it signed a definitive licensing and settlement agreement with patent-holder NTP and that, as a result of the deal, all litigation against RIM was dismissed by a court order this afternoon.
