Ads That Know What You Want

Picture this: You're shopping online for a new minivan, surfing automaker websites and buying guides. You then head to the homepage of your local paper to check out the headlines, and at the top of the page is an ad for a local car dealer, offering rebates and low financing on new minivans.

Area 51 Exposed

It seems Google's technology is catching up with Area 51. This post shows the huge runways, buildings and the mounds to the north of Groom Lake. There are some areas blanked out with little green circles, as opposed to little green men.

Then of course this could be just what the government wants you to see.

Next arrival at the airport, a jumbo-size shopping mall

Long gone are the days when Sydney Airport's sole business was aircraft and passengers. Now, less than three years after a consortium backed by Macquarie Bank bought the airport for $5.6 billion, aviation in Sydney is more about generating cash for shareholders, who want a quick return on their investment.

Brogden battle plan to raise billions for major projects

Over the past year or so we've heard endless complaining about state infastructure and lack of vision. At last we have some light at the end of the tunnel with NSW Opposition leader John Brogden who will outline his teams plan at a business lunch tomorrow. If elected, I'm confident this will lead the state rather than take it for granted as the current government does.

Imminent Internet Log Jam April 12th 2005

Next Tuesday April 12th users of Windows XP who don't already have SP2 installed, will no longer be able to block the download of the 200MB SP2 Upgrade. It'll happen automatically.

Obviously this will only happen if affected users log on during that day or at any other time afterwards. I'm wondering right now what impact this will have on the internet in general. The traffic load of potential millions of 200MB downloads could be disastrous. All I can think of is the poor dial-up user !

Blame Redmond for this one !

Google search algorithm patented ?

Google applied for a patent on their ranking algorithm as of 15 months ago on December 31, 2003 and that application was posted on March 31st at the US Patent Office. It got the discussion forums buzzing this weekend. Even though I had substantial work to do and was behind on a project, I couldn't resist the temptation to read the very long 14,000 word, 45 page application and see what it could mean to the volatile world of search.

Google Gulp

Googles mission is to organize the world's information and make it useful and accessible to users.
But any piece of information's usefulness derives, to a depressing degree, from the cognitive ability of the user who's using it. That's wy they're announcing Google Gulp (BETA)™ with Auto-Drink™ (LIMITED RELEASE), a line of "smart drinks" designed to maximize your surfing efficiency by making you more intelligent, and less thirsty and possible more gullible than ever.
