The Industry of Difference

Just discovered a site (thanks to a haloscan comment) called Wake Up US. The site discusses issues which are likely to cause a problem within the USA if they are not looked into carefully and dealt with swiftly. It’s an excellent site with a balanced sensible approach and lucid opinion.

It got me thinking on a long held belief of mine, which is very much related to the topic of the site mentioned above.

“The industry of difference breeds the hatred of Racism”.

What does this mean ?

Simply this – if you keep telling someone often enough that they are different, they will begin to expect to be treated differently. The more they are treated differently, the more they are resented because they receive different treatment from governments, NGO’s and the like. That resentment can start a cycle of hatred.

Whilst people in genuine need require help from us, the cycle of different treatment amongst all people, can start a chain reaction which filters down through the generations.

I think we should create a country where there isn’t an expectation to be treated differently. Different treatment is actually a process of exclusion rather than a process of inclusion, but ti is different treatment that masks the true nature of Racism. Without inclusion – racism breeds rampant. What created this expectation … is there a word for it ? Is the different treatment of one culture over another racism ?

Think about it. Do the people from Culture A want to be treated different from Culture B ? Basically they don’t, but when they’’re told they are different, then the expectation to be treated differently starts.

Many readers may think I too am racist by thinking this way. Can I tell you I am far from it. I have been involved with many international events over the years. These events include people from all lands, religions, and backgrounds. Had I been a racist then would I have taken part ? …. I know the truth. You decide.

I’’m going back to my Thai food … watching TV on my Japanese television having viewed this post on a screen made in South Korea. Tomorrow I will drive in my German built – American car, and on Monday I will go back work at a company part Japanese and US owned. I work with people from many countries including India, Japan, Great Britain, New Zealand, Ireland, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and Malaysia.

Windows Vista & IE7 Beta 1 Released

Slashdot | Windows Vista & IE7 Beta 1 Released

"Today on the IE blog the availability of two new beta tests - Windows Vista Beta 1 and Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 - was announced. These tests are mainly targeted to developers and IT professionals. Thus the betas are only available to MSDN subscribers. Tom's Hardware has details as well." From the article: "While the code also includes an early look at the new user-interface design, the majority of end-user features in Windows Vista will not be included until Beta 2. In addition to these fundamentals, Windows Vista Beta 1 also includes the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 built into the platform. The technical Beta of Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP SP2 also is available today." Any early thoughts, MSDN subscribers?

Bin Laden book ban 'not an option' - National - smh.com.au

NSW law enforcement agencies cannot take action against people selling books endorsed by Osama Bin Laden because they do not appear to have broken any law, the State Government says.

A Sydney shop, The Islamic Bookstore at Lakemba, is reportedly selling books endorsed by the al-Qaeda terrorist leader which discuss the effectiveness of suicide bombings and attack Western civilisation as "the culture of oppression, the culture of injustice, the culture of racism".

The simple answer is, introduce a law immediately with retrospective powers. It’’s another example of the NSW Labour Government shirking responsibilities.

National ID card back on agenda

Australian IT - ID card back on agenda (Steve Lewis and John Kerin, JULY 15, 2005)

A PROPOSAL for a national identity card is being examined by the federal Government as a way of improving border security and countering terrorism threats.

The controversial plan was yesterday raised by Queensland Premier Peter Beattie, who suggested a national ID card to prevent unlawful detention similar to that suffered by Cornelia Rau and Vivian Alvarez.

My thoughts ? Beattie can’’t help himself. Every chance he gets he’’s hitting on the federal Government. I might point out that he was all against the card a few years ago … but now … tada …. he’’s all for it … as long as he can use it as a political weapon against the Prime Minister.

I think a national ID card could also be combined with smart card technology which would work for things like public transport. That way if we do end up having to have security checks at public transport terminals … those with an approved national ID card will have been pre screened. It makes for a much safer ride.

Politics from Left to Right- The Bloody Seventh.

Politics from Left to Right: Josh Trevino: The Bloody Seventh.

This morning was the Bloody Seventh.

This is a poignant summation of the events in London today. Well written and from the heart. We’’re thinking of them all today.

Multiple blasts paralyse London

BBC NEWS | UK | Multiple blasts paralyse London

Large numbers of casualties have been reported after at least six explosions on the Underground network and a double-decker bus in London.

How incredibly sad for London and the U.K. A day after thier glorious victory to host the 2012 Olympic Games, we have this mindless terrorist act. It would not surprise me if some of those little anti-G8 feral pigs are involved.

What I am about to say wll probably raise anger amongst many, but if it takes a military and police action, door by door, and house, by house search for the low life filth that perpetrated these hideous crimes then so be it. Forget forgiveness, forget turning the other cheek, it time for the world to act now against this outrage.

It is time the gloves are taken off, against terrorists. No negotiation, no fairy flossing, no United nations, no Frenchy diplomacy, no gutless overtures …. just immediate swift and decisive action.

It's London

Congratulations London !

Let 12:46pm on July 6th, 2005 forever be a defining moment in your sporting history.

What a wonderful surprise ! You have done your country proud and as you theme song says “what have you done today to make you feel proud” … the answer … you have done everything right, you believed in yourselves and you strived for the goal in fairness and with respect for your competition.

Well done … enjoy your journey … it will be hard for you … you will have doubts … you will despair … but in the end you WILL triumph.

Pay no attention to doomsayers and the press when they try to pull you down … it will pass …. you will suceed.

On the BBC right now the commentators are saying … “well … we’ve done it now … and now we have seven years of very hard work to do” … I remember saying the same thing out at Sydney Olympic Park back on 23rd September 1993.

To Paris, comiserations. I have no doubt you will host the games again one day. Just as Beijing came back after thier defeat in 1993, so will you.

Voting reaches 4th Round

Voting has reached a fourth round and has been concluded in the voting to elect a Host City for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Tonight takes me back to 23rd September 2003 and into the early morning hours of the 24th when at 4:28am Sydney was voted the Host City for the 2000 Olympic Games.

Right now there are three people in the world that know the result. They are the three scruitineers for the vote. They hold enormous responsibility.

Although there’s no way that the cat would be let out of the bag before the official announcement ceremony in 28 minutes from now, there has been instances in the past where there have been hints given.

Apparently in 1993 IOC Member Flora Isava, wore a brightly coloured scarf as an indicator to the Sydney delegation if that cities bid had reached the last round.

As we know Sydney did, and went on to win the election, beating favourite Beijing by just two votes.

This time around, not only do we know publicly which city has been knocked out in all but the final round, it’’s actually broadcast on the world’’s media.

Good Luck to Paris and London. I hope it’’s London.
