Few details in eBay's Shopping.com plans: Internet News from The Industry Standard

EBay Inc.'s planned acquisition of comparison shopping site Shopping.com Inc. is a good move in theory, but its ultimate success will depend on how effectively and to what extent the two organizations are integrated, an issue eBay isn't addressing in much detail just yet.

The battle for the blogosphere

The battle for the blogosphere: Internet News from The Industry Standard

Who will Google buy ?

A bubble or a boom?

I don’t think it’s a case any longer if Google will buy something big within the next six months, but rather, how big, how soon, and what will they decide to do with it.

This story suggests that Google might even buy News Corporation.

Like most companies, News probably has underperforming sectors of it’s business and one could assume they’d get sold off under such a deal. But for now it’’s all hypothesis, nobody really knows what is going to happen.

One thing that is tweaking my imagination though … given the departure of Murdochs son Lachlan from the company recently … is this a precursor to a move in that direction. Could it be that the young gun is playing his old man … only to come back in a new guise, possibly part of the Google banner ?

Oh don’’t tease me now.

Sydney shocks the Saints

The Australian: Sydney shocks the Saints [September 17, 2005]

After a year of criticism the Sydney Swans have made it to the Australian Football Leage (AFL) Grand Final to be held next Saturday 24th September.

This is the teams first Grand Final appearance since 1996 and if won will be thier first pennant since 1933.

There are shadows over half-forward and Captain Barry Hall, who may be cited to appear before the AFL judiciary on Monday night after an alleged strike on a St Kilda player. The player appeared to milk the penalty (to no avail) but the TV hosts and coverage milked it even more.

It’’s time for Huddo (Channel 10 commentator) to shut up and realise there is football outside of Victoria.

An affront to common democracy

Moore's grip a little looser as chance intervenes to topple her deputy

This is ludicrous ! Did the people of Sydney know that the Deputy Mayor is elected by drawing lots out of a little wooden box ?

Th purpose of a deputy mayor is to stand in for the mayor when the mayor is prevented from performing the duties assigned to the role.

In this case, could it be that the mayor (Clover Moore) who also happens to be a member of state parliament, will be calling on the deputy more and more often as has previously been the case.

If so, then how are the powers derived from the people, duly executed, when the people did not vote for the deputy mayor (in this case the stand in mayor).

Does Clover think she has absolute power in this ? We all know what absolute power does however. As mayor she must immediately put a stop to this and institute a method by which the people vote for the deputy mayor at the next council elections.

Britney Spears - Selling Birth Video

The rumour seems to be true. Britney Spears is trying to sell the birth video of her soon to be born child to network television.

The other rumour out is that someone is auctioning an item on eBay which wins them the right to pay Britney NOT to sell her birth video to network TV.

I wonder which will get the bigger bid.

Katrina Refugee or Katrina Evacuee

I thought with all the media frenzy at the moment, coupled with self-congratulatory editorial and endless blame gaming, that a clarification of media broadcasts should be presented.

Definition of evacuee wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn

Clearly people are evacuees in this situation.

What a Week

This week has been the biggest week of news locally and abroad, I think I’ve seen since September 11.

Locally we’ve had a leader of a political party have to resign his position, and then under pressure from newspapers, attempt suicide.

Then of course …. Katrina. The hurricane has dominated news in Australia almost continuously since it first hit early in the week.

For clarity I shall post several entries separately over the next few days. The news has been so thick and fast that I haven’’t had time to blog let alone gather thoughts to try and post some coherent notes.

Stay tuned.
