Tech Rallies Around Open Document Format
Several high profile and groups have banded together to show solidarity for the OpenDocument Format (ODF), a collection of office document formats to help organizations share digital information.
The Software & Information Industry Association, IBM, Sun Microsystems and a host of other vendors and groups today announced the creation of the OpenDocument Format Alliance (ODF Alliance).
RIM Settles in BlackBerry Patent Case
Research In Motion has agreed to pay $612.5 million in order to end a long-running litigation lawsuit that threatened to shutter RIM's popular Blackberry e-mail service in the U.S.
The Waterloo, Ontario-based RIM put out a statement Friday saying it signed a definitive licensing and settlement agreement with patent-holder NTP and that, as a result of the deal, all litigation against RIM was dismissed by a court order this afternoon.
Intel Reports Revenue Shortfall
Intel (Quote, Chart) reported less-than-stellar news ahead of the Intel Developers Conference next Tuesday in San Francisco.

Microsoft acquired the WinTarget technology from String Bean Software of Montgomery Village, Md. WinTarget is an Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) storage area networking (SAN) solution designed and optimized for the Windows platform. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
